Hicham Benohoud

ACROBATIE

Hicham Benohoud goes inside the private domain and uses home interiors to interrogate relationships and the conflicts of spectacle. He showcases the unassuming subject – placed within their domestic home, estranged from the landscape that their actions seek to position them in. Benohoud’s approach takes a private interiority that is meant to be seen only by a few and transforms it. The shifting performance ground is a catalyst for Benohoud, providing a notion of interiority to a practice of spectacle that was reserved for an audience. The only people present to their performance are their family members, which serve as a both a framing device and metaphorical background for them, being the reason for their performances. Benohoud aims to deprive them from the spectacor public and magnifies this from the removal of their usual, formal costumes as the acrobats perform in their contemporary everyday clothing.
